Independence ….. Wow, what a great thing it is!

Happy Independence Day to all! As I sit here thinking about what independence means to us I realize that is exactly what open source platforms give to our clients…. INDEPENDENCE and the ability to be INDEPENDENT.

The definition of the word independent:

in·de·pend·ent

adjective

1. not influenced or controlled by others in matters of opinion, conduct, etc.; thinking or acting for oneself: an independent thinker.

2. not subject to another’s authority or jurisdiction; autonomous; free: an independent businessman.

3. not influenced by the thought or action of others: independent research.

4. not dependent; not depending or contingent upon something else for existence, operation, etc.

5. not relying on another or others for aid or support.

As a creator for many years of proprietary solutions, it was so frustrating to tell the clients no and many times that was the answer to their very important needs. Clients and potential clients would come to us with great ideas, features, and system flows. The ideas were all great but, having one main application for all became a problem.

Then came the revolutionary idea of Open source solutions where our clients were no longer influenced or controlled by other features. They were no longer locked into having to host with one company, they did not have to learn new features added that were irrelevant to their business model, and they could add a suite of features, extensions, and auto feeds via API or XML. The best thing is that at the end of the day, or in the middle of the night when many business owners finally find the time to work on their site, they can Google the support questions they have and most of the time find videos and information in abundance as well as communities they can join to get answers when they need them.

That is truly an independent business, ask yourself why you would want to continue to be controlled and repressed by other solutions when online independence is just a phone call away. Join the ecommerce open source revolution and empower your online business with the features you need to truly stand out from your competitors.
